Call to Fringe Audition

All You Need Is Love-a (Love-a Love-a) is a HILARIOUS interactive performance, written using traditional Renaissance Commedia dell ‘Arte stock characters but there are contemporary references and this piece is a musical sung to tracks. This production is written and directed by Holly Derbyshire.

PLEASE COME PREPARED:  with a short (1-2 minute) comedic monologue and your favourite karaoke song on a flash drive and/or on a phone.  Microphones will be available at the venue.

COMMITMENT:  Rehearsals are every Tuesday and Thursday, from 6-9 p.m., beginning June 24.  All rehearsals and BYOV performances will be held at Woodcroft Community Hall. Performances during the Fringe Festival, August 14 to 24 2025. Performances will be held in the evenings at 8 pm, with possible matinee shows on the weekends. TBD

ROLES:  There are 7 parts, 5 "female"  and 2 "male" but all parts can be played by any gender.  ROLES are as follows:  

ISABELLA RITCHA: daughter of PANTALONA.   A beauty.  Loves FLAVIO 

FLAVIO HOTTO: handsome. Loves ISABELLA, AKA/disguises himself as PUTTANESCA servant of DOTTORA. Humiliates CAPITANO his rival.

COLUMBINA: maid of ISABELLA in the Pantalona household.   Clever.   Loves ARLECCHINO also disguises herself as FORTUNE TELLER and DRAGON LADY.  She has different accents for the disguises.

ARLECCHINO:  clever servant in Pantalona household.   Loves COLUMBINA launches schemes.  Nimble and clever.

DOTTORA la STUPIDA: fake intellectual.   Very full of herself.  Needs money to keep her status. Thinks she is the mother of CAPITANO  

CAPITANO BRAGGADORO il Maximo: “son” of DOTTORA. He is a military man who brags about his accomplishments and exploits.  His military victories are all in his head.  He is really a coward.  Pretends to love ISABELLA, but really only loves himself. All his gestures are exaggerated.  He has a distinctive “military” walk that is over-the-top hilarious.  Loves to prepare Italian food.

PANTALONA RITCHA:  mother of ISABELLA. Cares only about money. Rich.
